Vertical Response Comparison and Review

Vertical Response Review

Pros:

  • ChooseWhat CheckExcellent email creation tools (scored 5 out of 5 stars)
  • High quality campaign reports (scored 5 out of 5 stars)
  • 25 MB of picture hosting (Market Standard is 5-10 MB)
  • Can import contacts from email accounts (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail)
  • Can create A/B test campaigns (to test subject line, from name, time sent)
  • A real person manually reviews your email campaign before it's sent

Cons:

  • Cannot import contacts with cut-and-paste
  • Spam checker not available

Conclusion:

Vertical Response scored high on Ease of Use and Campaign Reports. However, they do not offer a spam checker and you cannot easily cut and paste your contacts into their contact management system. They scored high on Ease of Use for their large amount of image hosting space and their WYSIWYG editor.

Ease of Use

Vertical Response received 5 out of 5 stars for Ease of Use. They offer more than 700 templates that let you edit and replace the images that come included on the template, which allow for up to three columns of text. They offer 25 MB of image hosting space, which is much more than our Market Standard of 5 to 10 MB. This larger image hosting capacity makes managing your photos much easier. They offer a WYSIWYG editor that allows you to see what your email campaign will look like to your readers while you are editing it. You can also drag and drop both images and content blocks as well as remove their logo from your eNewsletter for free.

Features

Vertical Response does not offer a spam checking tool, but they do have real people who read over your email before sending it out. They do not offer an autoresponder that sends a welcome message to new subscribers confirming their sign-up. They integrate with Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, making it easy for you to stay connected with your readers. Vertical Response allows you to create an A/B test campaign and their reports integrate with Google Analytics. A/B testing is important if you want to test out specific demographics to determine how to get more readers to open your emails. Google Analytics is a tool that tracks the traffic of your readers from your email campaign to (and throughout) your site.

Managing Contacts

Vertical Response scored 3 out of 5 stars for Managing Contacts. You can import contacts from Excel and Outlook as a CSV file, as well as import from other email accounts. However, you cannot cut and paste contacts into your contact list. They automatically remove unsubscribed emails from your contact list and make removing bounces easy.

Customer Service

Vertical Response received 4 out of 5 stars for Customer Service. They offer phone, email, and live chat support from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, as well as email support from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends. We found their customer support to be knowledgeable, prompt, and friendly. The wait times for their customer service varied, but overall they were quick and detailed in their responses to our questions.

Campaign Reports

Vertical Response received 5 out of 5 stars for Campaign Reports. The vendor’s reports accurately reflected user actions when we tested their service. The reports display opens, forwards, number of clicks, bounces, unsubscribes, and top performing links. You can receive reports in an email, have the reports displayed in graphs, and can export reports into a spreadsheet. You cannot export bounces or unsubscribes.

Pricing

Vertical Response’s free trial is 30 days and includes 500 emails. Their pricing structure is both contact-based and email-based. It costs $10 for 500 contacts per month and $28 for 2000 contacts, among other plans. They also offer a pay-as-you-go option that costs $7.50 for 500 emails, $15 for 1000 emails, and $32.50 for 2500 emails.
